The Sake Girl

{May 9, 2008}   Sake Beauty!

I’ve put cucumbers on my eyes, used kelp extract in my hair, and scrubbed my face with oats.. but never have I lathered up with my favorite liquor. Well that’s about to change.

Geisha girls have been using it for centuries. The toji (master sake brewer) have got the softest hands in Tokyo. You ask: Is SAKE really that good for your skin? The answer: Yep.

The powerful amino acids, minerals, and vitamins released in the rice fermentation process help hydrate and smoothen skin, in totally natural and awesome ways. In fact it is even traditional for women in Japan to add sake to their baths to make their skin so sake-smooth.

Taking a cue from our Island friends, the peeps at Fresh have delivered a line of products made from sake, to bring out your inner geisha. Rice Sake Bath is made up of 50% sake, and is combined with a handful of other natural ingredients and smell-goods.

Check out the extra-rich Rice Body Cream or the anti-frizz, moisturizing Sake Hair Cream

If you want to smell like you just walked out of a kura (sake brewery) then try their Sake Eau De Parfum

Also, looky here: AminoRice is a line of hydrating creams and firming serums that is actually made by Fukumitsuya, a Japanese sake brewery.

Now tell me, when was the last time you put some Heineken in your hair or some Bourbon on your derriere? That’s what I’m talking about.

Let me the count the ways..

1 is for the purity of the grain–no added sugars or flavorings, and yet you do not taste plain..

2 is for the pairings– you go with thai food and chicken and pizza too! (Just pairing it with sushi, well shame on you!)

3 is for the daiginjo– how did you get so divine? The Drink of The Gods, I’m so glad that you’re mine.

4 is for the nama– so grassy, so earthy, so true–who knew what not pasteurizing could do to you?!

5 is for the genshu– so boisterous, full bodied, and fun–too bad I’m not gonna share with anyone

6 is for cocktails– the basil, the seltzer, the lime.. oh, some ice and a straw suits you just fine!

7 is for my skin– your amino acids give me a glow!

(Geisha girls used to apply sake on their face before the white makeup, you know?)

8 is for all the hangovers I never had

9 is for the infusions that make me so glad (mint, melon, and chili oh my!)

10 is for all the varieties you have–I could drink a sake every night, and could go for two years before repeating it twice!

Oh sake, sake, sake..I will have to drink you now, before you get warm..
